THERE IS - THERE ARE

 

In inglese le espressioni “c’è e ci sono” si traducono 

“there is… ---- there are…” .

“There is” è singolare, mentre “there are” è plurale, infatti sono accompagnati da un sostantivo singolare o plurale, un esempio può essere:

There is a flower in the garden.

Uso There is, perché il sostantivo  flower, cioè fiore, è singolare.

Nella frase:

There are two flowers in the garden.

Uso There are…  plurale perché il sostntivo, “(two) flowers “ cioè fiori, è plurale.

 

FORMA AFFERMATIVA

Nella sua forma affermativa, quindi abbiamo there is  e there are esempio:

There are two tables in the kitchen.

FORMA NEGATIVA

Nella forma negativa dobbiamo aggiungere il “not”, quindi avremo

there is not ---------- there are not .

there  isn't ----------- there  aren't

Short form

Importante è ricordare che nella forma negativa usiamo “ANY”

esempio:

SING        The isn't the horse in the farm.

                 Non c’è il cavallo nella fattoria.

 

PLUR       The aren't any horses in the farm.

                  Non ci sono cavalli nella fattoria.

 

FORMA INTERROGATIVA

Nella forma interrogativa there is e there are si scambiano di posto, diventando:

Is there… ? ------ Are there…  ?
